Day 1 – Arrival at Porto airport. Group meet and assisted by our guide. The tour will start by driving north in direction to Vila Nova de Cerveira. This small walled town was founded in 1320 by king Dinis, after whom the magnificent pousada, installed in the 16th-century castle, has been named. It is worth visiting the Mother Church and the Mercy Chapel. Afterwards we will proceed to Caminha. The ancient fortress town of Caminha overlooks the river Minho and is rich in historical and architectural patrimony. The whole town is appealing, with its manorial houses and medieval defensive walls that seem to whisper old tales and legends, the Gothic Mother Church, the attractive main square with popular cafés and exhibiting the 15th century Clock Tower, a renaissance fountain and the 15th century mansion of Solar dos Pitas, with seven fine Manueline windows on the upper storey. Dinner and overnight in Caminha.

Day 2 – On this day your tour will start by visiting Valença, the 13th-century border town with a flourishing market and ancient fortifications. We will continue then to Monção, an attractive old town, home of the Alvarinho green wine. After lunch we will proceed to Castro Laboreiro and then Melgaço – this small and tranquil town grew around a fortress built by order of Afonso Henriques, the first king of Portugal (1139-85). The castle, now a national monument, has an impressive keep and dominates the labyrinth of ancient streets and alleys that cross each other within the walls. Dinner and overnight in Melgaço.

Day 3 – Driving southbound we will pass by Arcos de Valdevez and then Soajo. Located in a region of rare beauty, this village has other curiosities, like Soajo Dolmens, Old Bridge and Côto Velho sightseeing. This village is famous for its communitarian threshing-ground constituted by 24 stone granaries standing on granite. The most ancient one goes back to 1782. These granite monuments were built at a time when corn started being grown on a regular basis and they were used for the protection of cereal from storms and rodents. Part of these granaries are still used by the villagers. Nearby we will visit Lindoso village. Its main attractions today are the castle, and one of the country’s best-preserved collections of granaries. Afterwards we will continue to Ponte de Barca – Jardim dos Poetas ( Garden of two Poets) lodges some of the main monuments and is ideal for picnics or for taking a stroll due to its tranquil atmosphere and bucolic scenery. Near the river, the large open-air market also attracts many visitors. Dinner and overnight in Ponte de Lima.

Day 4 – Walking around Ponte de Lima town we will visit the most important sights. Worth seeing is the Parish Church, built under orders given by King D. João in 1425 who also ordered the government to provide the finance. It was restored and enlarged during the reigns of King Duarte and King Alfonso VI. We will proceed then to Porto where the group will have lunch on board of a boat. Sightseeing Porto tour in the afternoon, visiting the highlight spots such as San Francisco Church, Stock Exchange. Dinner and overnight in Porto.

Day 5 – Morning free. After lunch transfer to Porto international airport to take the plane back home.
